Il 9 ottobre 2024, si inaugura alla Photographers' Gallery di Londra la mostra "Letizia Battaglia: Life, Love and Death in Sicily".
L'esposizione raccoglie le opere della celebre fotografa italiana (1935-2022), nota per la sua documentazione sulla vita quotidiana in Sicilia all'ombra della mafia. Questa ampia retrospettiva riunisce immagini potenti che coprono il periodo tra gli anni '70 e '90.
Curata da Paolo Falcone e supportata dalla Fondazione Fendi Speroni, nonchè dall'Istituto Italiano di Cultura a Londra, la mostra sarà visitabile fino al 23 febbraio 2025.
Letizia Battaglia: Life, Love and Death in Sicily presents a solo show of work by the trailblazing Italian photographer Letizia Battaglia (1935-2022).
Battaglia documented everyday life, alongside the brutal reality of the Mafia and their victims in Sicily during the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s. Her images are some of the best-known records of life in the shadow of the Mafia.
In her relentless pursuit against organised crime, she used her camera to document the daily terror, putting it on the front page. Her pictures also capture the poverty on the streets as well as the life of the upper classes, religious processions, festivals, funerals and much more.
